It is a natural fresh water lake, brimmed with ever green mountains. The weather here is salacious; the scenic beauty, hypnotising and the nature, unspoiled. Pookot lake tourist resort in Vythiri is the most sought after tourist spot of Wayanad. There is an aquarium and a green house here. Boating facilities are also available. Set in a beautiful valley and surrounded by evergreen forests and wooded hills, Pookot is one of Wayanad's top visitor draws. This natural lake near Lakkidi is just a short distance off the NH212. It has been developed as a recreational centre having boating facilities, children's park, and a shopping centre for handicrafts and spices fresh water aquarium etc. It is a good setting for day outings with family.

The lake is crowded during holidays and it is difficult to find isolation. Still if that is what you want then tread the walkaway around the lake and you will experience much tranquility. Boating on Pookot Lake is also an interesting option. A nearby Eco shop can be visited in you are keen to see products made of around 2 dozen variety of bamboo Pookot has some of the highest hill ranges in the State in its Vythiri Taluk (a Taluk is a sub division of a district). Winding hairpin bends and ridges make the journey up the ranges an exciting experience. With vast stretches of tropical forests and hilly terrain as yet untainted by civilization, Wayanad is also home to the largest number of tribal settlements in Kerala.
