Kuruvadweep Island (17 km east of Mananthavady /45 km northwest of Sulthan Bathery)
The Kuruvadweep is an uninhabited island, which has the birds, orchids and herbs to look for. It is an excellent place for excursion from Wayanad. The Thirunelly Temple has a beautiful architecture and is located on the banks of the Papanasini River. You can trek from the Chembra Peak ,which is situated at an altitude of 2100 m. pakshipathalam is tourist spot located in the Brahma Giri Hills. It has a renowned bird sanctuary, which has some rare species of birds. The other wildlife sanctuaries for excursion are the Begur Wildlife Sanctuary and the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary.
It is 17 km. east of Mananthavady and 40 km. north west of Sulthan Bathery, calm and peaceful. The Kuruva island, 950 acres of ever green forest on the banks of river Themkabani tributaries of east flowing river Kabani, is an ideal picnic spot, far away from the disturbances of city life. The island is uninhabited. Rare species of birds, orchids and herbs are the sovereigns of this supernal kingdom. The island gives you a wonderful feeling of entering into a bygone era. There are shallow stream and marshes in abundance which you need to traverse in order to get to the land. Keep plenty of time to have a good look around at the nature's wondorous work. A large variety of birds can be spotted here.
